Energy Work — What Really Happens and What It Is Not

3 min read·Illaripa Lupa Hake

Energy work is a term that is used a lot and explained little.

What happens in a session?

What changes?

And why does something sometimes change that was not accessible through words alone? These are valid questions. Here are answers, without mystification. ## What the Energy Field Is Every person has an energy field. That is not an esoteric claim — it is what quantum physics, biology, and various healing traditions describe in their own ways.

The energy field is the non-physical part of the human being that carries information. Memories that are not stored as conscious recollections but as bodily reactions. Programs from childhood that run as nervous-system responses. Emotions that were never expressed and therefore remain stuck in the system.

In Andean medicine we call the field Poq'po — the bubble of energy that surrounds every person. Within this bubble there is free energy — Sami — and heavy, bound energy — Hucha. ## What Hucha Is Hucha is not "bad energy." It is dense, heavy energy — energy that is bound instead of flowing. It arises from experiences that were not processed. From emotions that were suppressed because there was no room for them at the time.

From foreign energy one absorbed and never let go of again. From old decisions one made in order to protect oneself, and which are no longer current. Hucha is not dangerous. It is heavy.

And when it accumulates, it makes one heavy — physically, emotionally, energetically. ## What Happens in a Session In a one-on-one session I do not begin with the problem the person describes. I begin with the energy field. I sense where Hucha sits. Where the flow of Sami is interrupted.

Which areas of the field need attention. Then the work begins: releasing and draining Hucha. Establishing the connection to Pachamama, the earth that takes in heavy energy and transforms it. Strengthening and stabilizing the energy field.

This happens through direct contact with the body and the field — through the hands, through breath work, through rituals. ## What the Person Experiences That is individual. Some people feel warmth during the session, tingling, a sense of weight releasing. Some almost fall asleep. Some cry without knowing why.

Some feel nothing at first. What comes after the session is often more marked than what happens during it. Deeper sleep. Clarity in a situation that was murky before.

Emotions that come up — sometimes only after days. This shows: the energy that has moved needs time to integrate. Healing is not an immediate state. It is a process that begins. ## What Energy Work Is Not Energy work is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment.

Physical illnesses need medicine. Psychological illnesses need psychological or psychiatric support. Energy work is a complement — and sometimes a very effective one. Because it works on the level where many symptoms have their origin: in the energy field, not in the symptom itself.

And it is not a miracle cure. It is a practice that works over time. One session can move a great deal. Deeper patterns sometimes need several sessions — because they lie in layers.

In a one-on-one session we look at where your field stands, what can be moved, and what the next step is.
