Andean Energy Medicine and Therapy — What Is the Difference?

3 min read·Illaripa Lupa Hake

Many people who come to me already have therapy experience. The question that often arises: what does Andean energy medicine do that therapy does not?

And the other way around?

The honest answer: they work on different levels.

Neither fully replaces the other. ## What Does Therapy Do?

Therapy works with language, with thoughts, with behavior patterns, and with understanding connections. Good therapy helps you recognize why you react the way you react. It gives tools for dealing with difficult emotions. It creates a safe space for what otherwise has no room.

Therapy is valuable. It can change lives. And it has limits. ## What Therapy Often Does Not Reach What has settled physically. Reaction patterns that play out before the mind can respond.

Energetic blockages that have been active for years and are not fully reachable on the level of thinking and speaking. Many people report from therapies: I understand everything. I know where it comes from. But the pattern remains.

That is not a failure of therapy — it is another level that has not yet been addressed. ## What Does Andean Energy Medicine Do? Andean energy medicine works directly with the energy body. Not with thoughts and not with conversation — with energy. With the layers that have built up in the energy field.

With Hucha — heavy, dense energy that arose from experiences, contacts, and unintegrated emotions. When Hucha dissolves, the pattern changes. Not because someone decided it — but because the energy that maintained the pattern is no longer there. That is the difference between insight and resolution.

Andean energy medicine also works with the concept of Ayni — reciprocity, balance. Many blockages arise through imbalance: in giving and receiving, in relationships, in the connection to one's own life energy. The work aims to restore this balance. ## What Energy Medicine Does Not Replace When someone experiences acute psychological crises, he needs psychological and, if necessary, psychiatric support. Energetic work is then a complement, not a substitute.

When someone has built up concrete cognitive patterns and convictions through his history, conversation in therapy can help to understand them — that is work energy medicine alone does not provide. ## When Does Andean Energy Medicine Help Especially? When someone has the feeling of having understood everything — and is still stuck. When there are physical symptoms whose cause is not fully explained medically. When old patterns keep repeating despite long work on them.

When exhaustion without a clear cause has become a permanent state. ## How the Two Work Together The people I accompany who are also in therapy often report that the two reinforce each other. The insights from therapy can be integrated more deeply once the energetic blockages have dissolved. And the energy that is released in a one-on-one session creates room for what is discussed in therapy. That is not an either-or.

It is a both-and — on different levels of the same person. If you want to learn more about the work in a one-on-one session, you will find all the information on the corresponding page.
